Pumpsim™ is a 3D simulation software developed by Chasm Consulting, the creators of Ventsim. Pumpsim ™ provides you with the tools to accurately model, simulate and optimize your pumps and pumping systems.

How does Pumpsim™ differ from other pumping network simulation tools? In this short article, I share what I believe are the best features of Pumpsim™.

1. It’s 3D of course

Having inherited the interface of the popular Ventsim subway mine ventilation software means that when you model pumping networks, you don’t have to simplify your model. Instead, you can import a wireframe model (dxf will work perfectly) and convert it to a network model in Pumpsim ™.

The benefits? Not only will you have a fantastic model of your pumping network, but a model with actual elevations, turns, fittings, pipe diameters, and actual distances that allow you to get a very accurate representation of your system.

2. Terrain mapping

Many processes require pumping over long distances in different terrains. Pumpsim™ has a function that allows you to assign your pipeline to the reference surface that represents the terrain. The result? a realistic representation of your pumping line.

3. Pump Management

With this function, you can easily enter your pump curve to accurately model the behavior of your pumping network.

Do you have the data? Just fill in the table with the pressure and flow values and the curve will appear automatically.

Do you have the curve? Even better! You can reconstruct the curve of your pump using the built-in digitizer. It couldn’t be easier!

You can even build a database of all the pumps in your facility and then ask Pumpsim™ to recommend the best pump for each specific situation during a simulation.

4. Databases

Not only does it have a database of all its accessories, pumps, valves, but also a database of materials and fluid properties, whether it is a Newtonian or non-Newtonian fluid, especially for the modeling of slurries found in mining and construction networks.

5. Dynamic Simulation

With dynamic simulation, you can evaluate your network performance in a simulated environment 24/7. With the help of easy-to-use scripts, you can program pumps, tanks and accessories to operate according to a defined operating condition, allowing you to extract valuable information about energy consumption or tank filling cycles.
